The town of Hérouville-Saint-Clair is located in the suburbs of Caen, in Calvados. A small town in Normandy that was simply called Hérouville until the 1960s, when the decision was made to create a new town that increased its population 13-fold. This was the birth of Hérouville-Saint-Clair. The town is located inland, but only about ten kilometers from the sea, the English Channel. Thanks to its proximity to the sea, the culinary specialties of Hérouville-Saint-Clair are often based on fish or shellfish.
