One of the treasures here is the Red-Bellied Parrot, also called the Kuhl's Lorikeet or the Rimatara Lorikeet. Only the island of Rimatara - thanks to the respect of a "tabu" decreed by its late Queen and ancestor Ta Vahine (1893-1923) - has been able to preserve a population of these birds, now classified as "endangered" on the IUCN Red List. A unique and rare opportunity to observe them during your visits to certain parts of the island.
