Also known as Clichy-la-Garenne, the town of Clichy is a commune bordering Paris. Born from a Gallo-Roman villa, the village gradually expanded while retaining its authentic character. A heavily wooded region until the Middle Ages, it was during this period that the name of the town was transformed to become Clichy-la-Garenne in reference to the numerous royal hunting parties that took place there. The Revolution marked a shift in the town's economic activities. This saw the rise of laundresses and washerwomen. The famous "Goulue" of the Moulin Rouge was one of the laundresses of Clichy. It was at the beginning of the 19th century that industrialization took hold in the commune with the arrival of the Maës crystal factory and the Appert glassworks, then in 1950, Citroën. However, Clichy has not lost its "village" character and intends to preserve it between modernity and tradition.
