Ondres is a commune in the Landes region, in the Nouvelle Aquitaine region, 10 km north of Bayonne.
The vast 15 km² territory of the locality is bordered to the west by the Atlantic Ocean and to the south and east, is partly formed by wetlands (ponds) and forests. Located on the edge of the Basque Country, Ondres was long a rural village exploiting pine trees for their resin and pine cones. The village was also known as a stopping place for pilgrims on one of the routes to Santiago de Compostela.
In the aftermath of the Second World War, Ondres, which consisted of a town and two hamlets, gradually became a family-friendly seaside resort, particularly popular with surfing and hiking enthusiasts.
Now home to nearly 5,200 inhabitants (compared to 1,500 in 1945), this is a place to stay or at least a choice stopover close to the major Basque towns (Bayonne, Biarritz, Saint-Jean-de-Luz) and other renowned resorts on the Aquitaine coast.

Bus stop to go to the beach or to Bayonne: Biarritz and Anglet are 300m from the house.
