The largest river port in the Paris region, Gennevilliers stretches northwest of Paris in a loop of the Seine. Long exploited as a quarry during the 19th century, the city gradually built itself up, dividing itself into eight large districts without having a real city center. This is where the city's originality lies. Eight districts for eight completely different atmospheres. Old Gennevilliers, also known as the Village, bears witness to the birth of the city with its houses grouped around the church. To the north of the city stands the Luth, attesting to the rise of urban planning in the 1950s and 1970s. The Cité-Jardin, built between 1923 and 1934, is a residential district that is still very popular today. Next come Le Fossé de l'Aumône and Les Chevrins. Then, the Agnettes district opens up to its neighbor. Les Grésillons and Chandon-Brenu are undergoing a revival, while still boasting buildings dating back to the 1930s. Finally, Petit Gennevilliers is emerging, or rather, its pretty Second Empire villas. Gennevilliers, long a rural area, is today a thriving and welcoming town where life is good.
