A commune in Morbihan, Brittany, Auray is located around twenty kilometers from Vannes, not far from the famous tourist site of Carnac.
Formerly a seigneury belonging to Guingamp, the commune of Auray was founded around its coastal port, Saint-Goustan, which once provided access to Spain and Great Britain. It developed over the centuries with its castle, a former 9th-century motte-and-bailey castle, becoming the landing place of the American Benjamin Franklin in the 18th century, during his search for funds for the War of Independence.
Even today, Auray is a charming town appreciated by visitors for its tourist activities, as much as for its heritage which bears witness to a rich and fascinating history.
