The town also boasts schools and a number of sports and cultural facilities, making it an attractive place for families.
Although Bourg-Achard is and foremost a modern town, it has an ancient history linked to Normandy. The town, whose name probably derives from the word ‘bourg’, indicating a centre inhabited since the Middle Ages, has preserved elements of its past, notably through its old buildings and rural landscapes. The church of Saint-Lô, built in the 19th century, is a notable part of the town's religious heritage.
Bourg-Achard is ideally located for exploring the Normandy region. It is around 30 km from Rouen, the historic capital of Normandy, and close to major tourist sites such as the loops of the Seine and the Boucles de la Seine Normande Regional Nature Park. The town is also around an hour's drive from the beaches of the Normandy coast, such as Deauville and Honfleur.
Bourg-Achard is famous for its weekly markets, which showcase local Normandy produce including cider, cheeses and farm produce. Locals and visitors alike can also take advantage of the nearby footpaths, offering picturesque views of the Normandy countryside.
Every year, local events such as fairs, fêtes and sporting events liven up the life of the town, reinforcing the friendly and dynamic character of this small commune.
Bourg-Achard is a dynamic little town, ideal for those seeking the tranquillity of the countryside while remaining close to larger urban centres such as Rouen. Its heritage, natural landscapes and village atmosphere make it a popular place for families and nature lovers.
