From your vacation home, you can walk to the Santa Catalina interchange, from where you can reach any part of the island by bus.
Holiday home surroundings
The unspoiled treasure of the island's capital is Playa de Las Canteras. It's the pearl the city doesn't hide. A long, miles-long strip of sand stretching across the entire bay. A place with a special charm that you can find just 3 or 4 blocks from the cruise terminal.
Locals insist that Las Canteras is one of the best urban beaches in the country. And they're right to think so. Because it's a beach with good weather almost year-round. The capital's place to escape, where all the clocks stop. A sort of beach version of Central Park, where you can exercise every day of the week, in a swimsuit, bikini, or surfboard.
It's also a large marine life reserve. Its seabed is a refuge for thousands of species of fish. On land, it's a refuge for walkers, fishermen, and surfers. And it has a special feature. This feature is what locals call "La Barra," a long rock formation that extends not far from the sand and protects a large part of the beach from the tides. A curious line of stones that makes the bay the best place on this side of the globe for swimming and allows bathers to walk on the water on low tide days.
And if you're going for a walk, we recommend the long walk that winds continuously towards the sand, avoiding the cafes and ice cream parlors. At the beginning of the promenade, you'll find the terraces of La Puntilla and fresh fish restaurants. At the other end of the beach, the surfer vibe around the Auditorium La Conciergerieo Kraus, with additional terraces and cafes facing the sea.
Although we must warn you, if you plan to stay in the city for several days, forget about finding the beach on Wednesday that you saw on Monday.
It's impossible! Because Las Canteras is the ever-changing beach. It will never be the same place as the day before. It will be completely different. And that's another of its peculiarities. It always stays in the same place, but it always shows itself differently.
