Meucon is a commune in Morbihan, in the Brittany region, 8 km north of Vannes. It only became an independent parish in 1779, and was created in 1790. Until then, it was a dependency of the bishops of Vannes. The site where the village would later develop was known for a leper colony established in the 12th century: the lepers who were welcomed there and resided in the adjacent dwellings specialized in the production of ropes. As a legacy of this centuries-old tradition, the last rope factory in the commune closed its doors in 1914. Meucon was also renowned for the production of fouaces, a pastry made from water, salt, and wheat flour. The last dedicated unit continued until the early 1970s. If the fouaces of Meucon were appreciated, it was due to the quality of the water from the area's springs. A natural wealth which has, for its part, endured: the water drawn from Meucon still supplies the town of Vannes.
Covering an area of 5.7 km², the lush green area lends itself to hiking. With its heritage and sporting activities, and home to 2,300 residents, the town is a pleasant stopover in the immediate vicinity of Vannes and the wonders of the Gulf of Morbihan.
