La Ciotat is located in the middle of a large gulf, called the Golfe d'Amour, 33 km from Marseille and 40 km from Toulon.
It is located in the heart of the Calanques National Park. Its two calanques, Le Mugel and Figuerolles, differ from those of Cassis by their red color and typical shapes (eagle's beak, dog's head).
Every year, La Ciotat celebrates the memory of the plague of 1720, when it became the breadbasket of Provence, as it was the only maritime town spared by it: a historic festival where the entire town is transformed and dressed up as it was at that time.
In March, the large regional boat show takes place in the waters of the port.
