Located 156 km from Saint-Malo and 5 km from Dinard, you can get to Saint-Lunaire by road, by train (TGV Paris/Saint-Malo then bus connection) or by plane (London/Pleurtuit line, Dinard PLeurtuit airport).
After the collapse of the empire, Armorica, like Brittany and England, was the scene of struggles between Saxons and Bretons. In 535, the young monk Bishop Lunaire, coming from Wales, landed at Pointe du Décollé. Lunaire and his disciples evangelized the country and built a monastery.
Around 1050, the Romanesque church of Saint-Lunaire was built near the ruins of the monastery. The Gallo-Roman sarcophagus in which Saint-Lunaire, who died at the age of 115, is said to have been buried can still be seen today.
For several centuries, Saint-Lunaire remained a village of fishermen and sailors who cultivated the land and where many long-distance captains were born who would equip the great Cape Horn sailing ships in the 19th century.
Around 1866, the seaside resort boom reached Saint-Lunaire. It was the seaside boom: boulevards, large villas, and a casino were built.
Starting in 1905, under the leadership of Sylla Laraque, a wealthy Haitian who made his fortune in sugar cane and fell in love with Saint-Lunaire, a new seaside town was born. He is responsible for the Grand Hotel, the Grande Plage seawall, the tennis courts, and 17 villas. Coming from wealthy families, the second-home residents came from Paris, Rennes, Lyon, and the north of France.
Although times have changed today, the seaside and family resort remains intact to welcome you all year round in an exceptional setting in the colors of the Emerald Coast!
