The commune of Lancieux is a seaside village on the Breton coast located in the heart of the Emerald Coast.
The history of the commune begins around the year 500, with the landing on the coast of Saint-Séoc, a Breton hermit and disciple of Saint-Brieuc. He built his monastery there, of which no archaeological trace remains to this day. Its disappearance dates back to the 10th century, following the Viking invasions, in favor of the Benedictine abbey of St Jacut.
Around the 15th century, the commune was divided between three lords and the Abbey of St Jacut. Under François I, the latter built the Buglais mill, the oldest monument in Lancieux, and the monks' dike.
Seaside tourism began in Lancieux in 1880. Today, the town relies primarily on this area for its livelihood. It offers walkers numerous sites to explore. These include the beaches of St. Sieu and Briantais, historic trails, the old bell tower, and the village.
The town also has leisure and sports facilities, as well as bars and restaurants where you can taste local specialties, while enjoying a warm setting on the Breton coast.
