Nestled at the confluence of the Loire and Erdre rivers, Nantes is a surprising city in the Loire-Atlantique department, elegantly balancing past and present. It is in the heart of the old town that stands the Château des Ducs de Bretagne, which has earned Nantes the nickname "City of Dukes." It is an ancient fortress, as evidenced by the moats and towers with Breton machicolations. The Tour de la Couronne d'Or, the well with wrought iron frames featuring the ducal crown, and the grand residence commissioned by François II, adorned with Gothic dormers, are among the castle's must-see attractions. You will follow a route divided into seven sections, from François I to the present day, as well as industrial Nantes and its current revival. Nantes has many green spaces, such as the Japanese Garden and its waterfalls, located on the Île de Versailles. With a rich collection of cacti and flora from Brittany, as well as North America, Asia, and Africa, the Jardin des Plantes, adorned with water features, is another pleasant place for relaxation and tranquility.
