"Las Canteras Beach is a long stretch of sand that stretches 3,800 meters along the bay.
Las Canteras is one of the best urban beaches in the country and the world, as it's a beach where the weather is good almost all year round. It's the place in the capital where you can relax, where time stands still, and where you can play sports every day of the week, with a swimsuit, bikini, goggles and snorkel, paddle (beach paddle), or surfboard.
It's also a large marine reserve. Its seabed is home to a thousand species of fish. On land, it's a refuge for walkers, fishermen, and surfers. And it has a special feature. This feature is what locals call "La Barra," a long rock formation that extends not far from the sand and protects a large part of the beach from the tides, transforming it into a natural saltwater pool when the tide is low. A curious line of stones makes the bay the best place on this side of the globe for swimming, as the salty sea makes it easier to float and, with swimming goggles, gives the impression of being inside a large aquarium.
And if you want to go for a stroll, we recommend the long promenade that winds along the sand, passing cafes and ice cream parlors. At the beginning of the promenade, you'll find the terraces of La Puntilla and fresh fish restaurants.
