"La Playa de Las Canteras" is a long strip of sand, occupying approximately 3,800 meters of coastline, which extends along the bay.
Las Canteras is one of the best urban beaches in the country and the world, as it boasts good weather almost year-round. It's the capital's place to relax, where time stands still and you can play sports every day of the week, in a swimsuit, bikini, goggles and snorkel, beach paddles, or surfboards.
It's also a vast reservoir of marine life. Its seabed is a refuge for a thousand species of fish. On land, it's a refuge for walkers, fishermen, and surfers. And it has a special feature. This feature is what locals call "La Barra," a long rock formation that extends not far from the sand and protects a large part of the beach from the tides, becoming a natural saltwater pool at low tide. A curious line of rocks that makes the bay the best place on this side of the globe for swimming, and the salt water facilitates buoyancy, and with goggles, it gives the impression of being in a large aquarium.
And if you're walking, we recommend the long promenade that winds continuously towards the sand, avoiding the cafes and ice cream parlors. At the beginning of the promenade, you'll find the terraces of La Puntilla and fresh fish restaurants. At the other end of the beach, the surfing atmosphere around the La Conciergerieo Kraus auditorium, with more terraces and cafes facing the sea.
Las Canteras is the ever-changing beach. It will never be the same place as the day before. It will be completely different. And that's another of its peculiarities. It's always kept in the same place, but it's always different.
