Puget-sur-Argens is a town in the Var region, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, bordering Fréjus, and 70 km northeast of Toulon.
Attached to the Kingdom of France in 1482, the village was fortified during the Wars of Religion in the 16th century and became a true commune in 1599 when the Bishop of Fréjus abandoned his feudal rights over the territory.
Situated between the Esterel massif and the Argens plain, the town developed during the second half of the 20th century: activity zones were developed, and crossed by the RN7 then by the motorway, Puget-sur-Argens saw its population increase from 1,500 inhabitants at the Liberation to more than 7,000 today.
However, the town has managed to preserve its environmental heritage: as evidenced by the Malvoisin woods and especially the banks of the Argens (and the ponds that line them), integrated into the Natura 2000 Network (remarkable fauna and flora deserving protection).
Several wine estates are still in operation (Côtes de Provence appellation), and olive oil production and sheep farming are still thriving.
Close to the Mediterranean coast, the beaches are less than 10 km away, making Puget-sur-Argens a popular stopover or even a holiday destination for tourists.
