Adjacent to Paris, the commune of Gentilly is located in the Île-de-France region, in the Val-de-Marne department. Close to Montrouge and Kremlin-Bicêtre, it benefits from excellent public transport links to the rest of the region. Formerly known as Gentiliacum, it took its current name at the very end of the 13th century. Shared between various abbeys and a seigneury in the Middle Ages, the territory developed over the centuries, notably with the creation of the Medici aqueduct in the 17th century. The town became a major industrial center in the 19th century, particularly in the laundry and tanning sectors, on the banks of the Bièvre. Now focused on tertiary activity, Gentilly is particularly known for its involvement in the audiovisual sector.
Ancient, the town still has some monuments and other tourist sites bearing witness to its past and its importance in history
