Located at the gateway to the Pays d'Auge, between Cabourg and Deauville, Dives-sur-Mer is a charming port town with a population of around 6,000. Its history is linked to the epic tale of William the Conqueror, who gathered his fleet here before setting off to conquer England in 1066. The historic center of Dives-sur-Mer is a jewel of medieval architecture, a legacy of its thousand-year-old past: the 15th-century market halls, the 17th-century Bois-Hibout manor house, the Notre-Dame church and its Romanesque section from the 11th century, the William the Conqueror Art Village from the end of the 15th century...
At the beginning of the industrial era, the proximity of the sea favored the establishment of a major metallurgical plant, which would be the economic engine of the city for more than a century. After its closure in 1986, the city turned once again to the sea, with the construction of the Port-Guillaume complex. Port-Guillaume is an eminently touristic area with a floating dock with a capacity of 600 berths and a mooring area of 300 moorings sheltered by a dune barrier. 1,200 homes are divided between vacation residences and small houses pleasantly arranged in a protected natural space. There are also shops and restaurants, the municipal media library and a sailing school.
